Dubai, United Arab Emirates - 28 July 2015: Marka PJSC (DFM: MARKA) has confirmed the expansion of the Reem al Bawadi restaurant chain into Sharjah and Ras al Khaimah for the first time. The company - the first public joint stock operation focused on the growing retail and hospitality sector in the UAE - has announced that it is opening two of the home-grown hospitality brand’s outlets in the emirates in Q4 this year, with November as the expected launch date for each offering.
The new additions to the Reem Al Bawadi chain, which has built its name specialising in Middle Eastern cuisine, will be located at Sahara Centre, Sharjah and Al Naeem Mall, Ras al Khaimah, with their launch extending the brand’s portfolio to nine outlets across the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan. Marka says that the openings form part of its long-term growth strategy of building a portfolio of leading brands operated by its food and beverage division, Marka Hospitality.
“Since its first restaurant opening in 2001, Reem Al Bawadi has established itself as a leading home-grown hospitality brand through its award-winning Middle Eastern cuisine that has garnered huge popularity among the region’s diners. We are delighted to bring the Reem Al Bawadi experience to Sharjah and Ras al Khaimah for the first time,” said Nick Peel, CEO of Marka.
Marka’s expansion of Reem Al Bawadi follows its purchase of the company in May this year for approximately AED 315 million. The sale was one of the largest food and beverage acquisitions in the UAE for a home-grown hospitality brand. According to Marka, The two new activations in Sharjah and Ras al Khaimah are the first in an ambitious expansion programme for the chain, which will see new franchised Reem Al Bawadi outlets opening in the wider Middle East and North Africa region.
“A major part of our acquisition of Reem Al Bawadi was a commitment to expanding the brand across the region and the opening of these two new outlets is the first fruition of this commitment. Their launch in just three months of Marka having the brand’s operations under its Marka Hospitality division demonstrates the company’s drive in adding new revenue-generating and profitable locations to our expanding F&B portfolio. We are currently at an advanced stage in the securing of premier locations for more Reem Al Bawadi restaurants in Abu Dhabi as well as Dubai, which will further extend the Reem Al Bawadi footprint in 2016,” added Peel.
The new Reem Al Bawadi restaurant in Sahara Centre will cover 5,500 sq. ft. and have an outdoor terrace of approximately 500 sq. ft., while the outlet at Al Naeem Mall will have an internal floor plan of 8,900 sq. ft. and an outside dining area of around 1,500 sq. ft. The two offerings will add to the Reem Al Bawadi experience that has seen it receive acclaim and awards for its authentic Middle Eastern cuisine and its warm family ambience. The restaurant won the title ‘Best Middle Eastern Restaurant’ at both the prestigious BBC Good Food ME Award 2014 and the What’s On Awards 2014.
