Marka and Hearst Magazines International announce plans to launch first Harper’s Bazaar Café in the UAE

Marka PJSC (DFM: MARKA), the first public joint stock company focused on the retail and hospitality sector in the UAE, and Hearst Magazines International, a unit of Hearst Corporation and the largest U.S. publisher of magazines around the world, today announced plans to launch the world’s first Harper’s BAZAAR Café. The announcement was made by Jamal Al Hai, Chairman of Marka PJSC, and Gautam Ranji, Hearst Magazines International senior vice president, licensing and business development.

Designed as a living embodiment of the style and stories that define the iconic fashion magazine, the café will be a sophisticated, immersive Harper’s BAZAAR experience, capturing the chic, provocative elegance that defines the brand.

The first Harper’s BAZAAR Café will open in the UAE before November 2015, followed by nine other cafés across the Middle East through 2020. Each venue will be an ever-evolving social space, offering vibrant food, fashion and art, and celebrating the heritage and style of the fashion magazine.

“Harper’s BAZAAR Arabia launched in Dubai in 2007, and was immediately embraced by fashion-forward readers in the UAE, who love the expertly curated, graphic style and visual energy that defines the brand around the world,” Mr. Ranji said. “BAZAAR is truly global, with a distinct point of view that translates into a specific lifestyle. The Café will bring that vision to life.”

With 31 editions around the world, Harper’s BAZAAR is a visual muse and an unrivaled source of ownable style, from what’s new to what’s next. Covering popular culture, art, and engaging personalities as well as fashion and beauty, BAZAAR informs and inspires, as it has since it was first published in 1867.

Marka is the first retail focused company to list on the DFM and was the first to conduct an IPO since 2009. Shares commenced trading on the DFM on 25 September, 2014. IMG Licensing is the exclusive product licensing representative for Harper’s BAZAAR outside of the U.S. and Canada.
